Work & Shipping order -  The Purchase order created by procurement generates a work order which brings logistics into process. Ok So How APICS define Work Order - An authorization to start work on an activity.The work order will help logistics to know about the shipment packing details so Logistics must be loop from starting point (From When Purchase order is created).. 

Then 

Logistics will generate shipping order to carrier or Forwarder which will have all details like size of shipment , Importer details , Exporter details  & Goods Need to be transported with accurate delivery address details.. .. 


Lead time -  Another very important aspect in any Logistics process-  The time between recognition of the need for an order and the receipt of goods, Individual components of Lead time can  include order preparation time,queue time, processing time,Move or Transportation time and receiving & Inspection time . 

The Manufacturing Lead time is the time between the release of a customer order to the production floor and completion of all required work when the product is ready to ship.. Logistics Professional must always factor in lead times, as they may negatively impact on time delivery of a product.

Routing Guide - A shipping Tools used to manage logistics activities for shipments between two points. It Contains Mode and carrier Information,Freight rates and service requirements. 

How Routing Guides Helps.. 

- Simplify Mode and carrier Selection

-Reduce transportation cost such as through volume discounts 

-Improve Supply chain Performances 

The routing guide also includes the various requirements for booking, Bills of lading and shipments & Documents specified for.

Selection of carrier :- Once the mode has been determined, the next Key Logistics decision is the selection of carrier. This is based on several criteria

-Geographic Coverage 

-Transit time average 

-Reliability 

-Freight rates 

-Responsiveness to emergencies 

-Freight Protection 

Collectively these variable will determine which is best carrier for a particular shipment.


Order Tracking & Visibility-   Order Tracking is the ability to determine the physical location of a customer order once it has been fulfilled. & order visibility is the ability to locate and view the status of a customer order in a real time with in application or platform. it usually shows all order related information from all parties across the supply chain.
